RAF flies Protector's first UK operational sorties over the Channel

BLUF The RAF used unarmed Protector RG1s on their first operational sorties in UK airspace, providing more than 10 hours of surveillance while HMS Dauntless and HMS Tyne monitored Russian vessels in the Channel. Current reporting carries direct Defence and RAF statements but gives no sortie count, sensor tasking, coverage split, readiness measure or weapons employment; the missions occurred earlier, between late September and mid-October.

Defence Blog / UK Ministry of Defence statements · Specialist current reporting carrying direct UK Ministry of Defence and Royal Air Force statements

The first UK operational sorties occurred while Royal Navy vessels monitored Russian ships between late September and October 14; current reporting was published November 1

Defence Blog's November 1 report carries direct statements from the UK Defence Secretary, the commanding officer of XIII Squadron and the commanding officer of HMS Dauntless. It reports first UK operational sorties, more than 10 hours of surveillance and joint support to Royal Navy monitoring, while explicitly withholding sortie count, sensor use and coverage split. The official RAF's October 30 record independently confirms 1,000 operational Protector hours and Middle East ISR support, but it does not document the Channel mission. No standalone current ministry or RAF release for the Channel sorties was located, so the card attributes the mission details through the current report and separates the later report date from the earlier mission dates.
