EOS plans next-generation Slinger production in Alabama for 2027

BLUF EOS says its next Slinger version will add sensing and selectable autonomous kill-chain functions while retaining stabilized, on-the-move engagement. The company plans to produce it at its Huntsville, Alabama, facility beginning in 2027 and says local production should shorten supply chains and lead times. This is a production plan for a product still in final development, not a new order, completed line, qualified system or achieved cost reduction.

TOTE signs MARAD contract and shipyard deal for first missile-range vessel

BLUF The Missile Range Instrumentation Vessel program has moved from July’s team selection to signed construction-management and shipyard agreements for its first ship. The design reuses the National Security Multi-Mission Vessel hull with a company-stated 70 percent commonality and is scheduled for delivery in 2030 to replace the 1965-built Pacific Tracker and 1970-built Pacific Collector. TOTE’s claim of at least 50 percent acquisition-cost reduction is not an independently audited outcome, and no contract value was released.

Tactien introduces CAST counter-UAS evaluation platform

BLUF Tactien has introduced CAST to give counter-UAS evaluations a repeatable data layer across site mapping, threat analysis, telemetry comparison, standardized or custom KPIs, 3D replay and reporting. The firm says independent aircraft telemetry serves as the control while human analysts retain final judgment. This is a tool launch and company-described methodology—not a government selection, published comparative result or proof that every vendor and site can be assessed without model or analyst bias.

Skyeton launches Stormbird strike UAS derived from Raybird

BLUF Skyeton has unveiled Stormbird, a fixed-wing tactical strike derivative of Raybird with Remora glide-munition, Quadremora FPV loitering-munition and Retranslator relay payloads. The company says Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has codified the system and that Ukrainian units already use it in combat. Those service, reliability, autonomy, electronic-warfare-resilience and 350,000-hour heritage claims remain manufacturer assertions; the release provides no customer quantity, delivery schedule or independent operational evidence.

Rheinmetall and Praetorian reveal containerized AERIE prototype

BLUF Rheinmetall and Praetorian Aeronautics have disclosed AERIE, a mobile containerized counter-UAS prototype able to house more than 20 interceptors. The demonstrator combines Praetorian’s Arrow kinetic interceptor with its Hadrian command-and-control system but is described as interceptor-agnostic. Full operator demonstrations are planned for the fourth quarter; no customer, order, live-fire result or fielding decision was announced.

Three companies launch SwarmShot airborne counter-UAS development

BLUF Federal Ammunition, Mossberg and Palladyne AI plan to combine specialized shotshells, a lightweight airborne weapon module and IntelliSwarm autonomy into a reusable drone-on-drone interceptor. Development is to cover terminal effects, recoil and stability, flight live fire, weapons safety, swarm coordination and sensor/C2 integration before any multi-OEM kit. This is a joint-development announcement: no qualification date, customer, order or completed SwarmShot firing was disclosed.

Defense Department opens mobile counter-UAS rapid-maturation topic

BLUF The Defense Department has released a small-business topic for rapid maturation of counter-UAS technology across the kill chain. It favors systems that move with the force, maintain tracks when targets go silent, process locally without cloud reachback and avoid a dedicated operator; kinetic, cyber and non-kinetic defeat remain in scope. The topic opens October 28 and closes November 25. It is a funding opportunity, not an award or selection, and SBIR.gov warns that its copy should be checked against the agency solicitation.

TSA and FEMA place first reported orders on DHS counter-drone vehicle

BLUF TSA and FEMA have placed the first publicly reported orders under DHS’s $1.5 billion counter-drone vehicle: $5.2 million for fixed and mobile RF sensors, $200,000 for a sensor-suite survey, installation and operation, and a $1.4 million split order for a kit based on D-Fend’s EnforceAir2. The three orders total $6.8 million and were signed September 28-30. They are task orders, not spending of the full vehicle ceiling, and late federal reporting could reveal additional fiscal-year-end actions.

Air Force confirms first HACM flight-test release in Australia

BLUF The Air Force has confirmed the first flight-test release of the Hypersonic Attack Cruise Missile over an Australian range. The event advances the RTX/Northrop Grumman program into flight testing after delay, but the service withheld the date, launch platform, speed, duration and result beyond data collection. A release is not proof of powered hypersonic flight, successful end-to-end performance or readiness for the planned fiscal 2027 fielding decision.

BLUF AFOSI has certified its first six X10D operator-instructors, creating an internal training cadre ahead of five drones planned for Technical Operations agents in January 2027. The service describes surveillance, outdoor crime-scene and protective-service uses. This is preparation for organic small-UAS fielding—not a counter-UAS capability—and the Air Force says the X10D has not yet been used in an actual AFOSI case.

The company says it weighs under one kilogram and is backward-compatible with existing MyDefence systems. This is a product launch, not a new military order, fielding declaration or independently measured detection result; the cited $77 million refers to cumulative U.S. Army purchases of earlier wearable systems over 18 months.

Arsenal-2 is intended to make Virginia-class components and large assemblies for Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding, with an interim California line targeted for 2028 and Maryland production for 2030. Poland places twelve FA-50GF aircraft on combat duty

BLUF Poland has placed its twelve FA-50GF light fighters on combat duty with the 23rd Tactical Air Base, adding them to the national air-defense and quick-reaction-alert system. The milestone follows the purchase of compatible short-range weapons, but the interim GF configuration has more limited radar and air-to-air capability than the 36 FA-50PL aircraft still to come. Readiness of the current squadron does not mean the full 48-aircraft program is delivered.

Rampart completes first at-sea live-fire trial

BLUF Rampart has advanced from the shipboard sighting reported September 22 to a first at-sea live-fire campaign aboard a Mistral-class assault ship. Naval News witnessed a 68 mm unguided salvo against a surface target and a Thales guided rocket against a target UAV; a Piorun seeker also locked on the UAV but that missile was not fired. The trial establishes firing at sea, not operational fielding, and no range, hit assessment or fleet adoption was disclosed.

What changed: The system has now completed its first reported at-sea live-fire campaign, replacing the earlier shipboard-sighting status with observed rocket firings against surface and aerial targets. Previous coverage

BLUF The Air Force has finalized the decision to base 26 F-35As at Oregon’s Kingsley Field, establishing the service’s third formal training unit and allowing supporting construction to begin. BLUF The Army has moved Anduril’s NGC2 common data layer from division-scale prototyping toward corps-scale fielding, starting with I Corps in the Pacific. The initial base period is valued at $162.8 million; options could raise the total to $1.8 billion over five years.
